On the outskirts of Skipton, in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, this charming, family run hotel boasts a wonderful canal-side restaurant offering great views of the famous Leeds, Liverpool Canal.   Skipton is a delightful traditional market town, known as the Gateway to the Dales, and is less than a mile from the hotel which can be reached either by walking along the canal towpath or using the regular bus service which runs from outside the hotel.   The hotel offers the best of traditional Yorkshire hospitality and good accommodation along with impressive leisure facilities including an indoor swimming pool.

Monday 29th July

We travel to our hotel in the beautiful market town of Skipton, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park where you will receive a warm welcome before dinner is served later that evening.

Tuesday 30th July

After a leisurely breakfast we catch the Settle to Carlisle Railway, one of the World's greatest railway journeys. Passing over the Ribblehead Viaduct, 1/4 mile long with 24 arches, Aisgil summet, the highest point at 1169 ft, and Appleby & the Eden Valley with lush green landscapes and beautiful views of the Lakeland Fells. You will have about one and a half hours in Carlisle before your return train ride.

Wednesday 31st July

This morning we drive into Skipton where we board a canal boat and take a 60 minute rib-tickling historic ride around the countryside. Your guide for the canal tour is award-winning comedian Dave Spikey of Phoenix Nights and 8 out of 10 cat's fame, Dave takes you on a whistle-stop tour of Skipton and canal history that's refreshingly different to your average commentary. You then have free time in Skipton where the unique market is on, dating back to medieval times or why not visit the 900 year old castle or wander around the historic cobbled High Street, there is plenty to see and do in this pretty town.

Thursday 1st August

Today we have a short drive to Haworth, with its historic cobbled Main Street, with a visit to the Bronte Parsonage Museum, the former Bronte family home where the sisters Charlotte, Emily and Anne lived and wrote their famous novels. In the afternoon we continue to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Saltaire to visit Salts Mill. This industrial village and textile mill was opened in 1853 and is named after its founder Sir Titus Salt and the River Aire. Admire the spectacular architecture as you wander around the village, explore the independent shops and restaurants scattered around the village. There is also a world class art on display at Salts Mill with one of the largest collections of David Hockney's

After a full Yorkshire breakfast we make our way home to Devon.
