From the ferry you can view a unique perspective of some of Cornwall's most iconic coastline, you may even be lucky enough to spot some marine wildlife. We arrive in St Mary's around lunchtime, we walk the short journey to our hotel, the hotel bedrooms may not be ready to check in yet, however the hotel will collect and store your luggage whilst you have time to explore this beautiful island before checking in later that day and then after you have had time to unpack and relax, dinner will be served later that evening.
Friday 17th July
Over these 3 days you will have 1 days full guided walking tour of Tresco and Abbey Gardens and the other 2 days are free days at leisure.
Guided Tour of Tresco and Abbey Gardens - We head off early and catch the local ferry across to the island of Tresco with our local experienced guide. Tresco is a beautiful, tranquil, family owned island that is the second largest of the islands and a subtropical gem. The island has a little bit of everything from dramatic rocky outcrops, bronze age burial sites and romatic castle ruins, to secluded sandy beaches. The rugged north of the island is a great place to walk and explore while in the centre of the island there are bird hides to seek out and Tresco's freshwater pools and of course not forgetting the world famous sugar-fine white sands of Pentle and Appletree Bay. Just before lunchtime we will visit Tresco Abbey Garden which was established in the 1830s by Augustus Smith, this horticultural paradise hosts a spectacular collection of more than 20'000 exotic plants from all corners of the world - many of which cannot be grown anywhere else in Britain. The Valhalla collection within the Garden is equally impressive with its colourful display of figureheads salvaged from the islands shipwrecks.
Saturday 18th July
2 Free days at leisure - On your two free days there is plenty for you to see and explore. St Mary's itself is an ideal base to catch a ferry to one of the other inhabited islands, St Martin's and St Agnes are two of the more popular islands to visit there is plenty of history and archaeology alongside sweeping sea views and of course some amazing wildlife. The island of St Mary's covers a total of 2.5 square miles, Hugh Town is where the hotel is located and is the central hub with a cluster of shops, churches, galleries and restaurants and has three lovely beaches in very close proximity - Porthcressa, Town Beach and Porthmellon. Old town is the other 'major' settlement on St Mary's and has its own beautiful beach, nature reserve and the beautiful Old Town Church where Sir Harold Wilson is buried. A good way to discover the entire island is to hire a golf buggy so you can start and stop at your own leisure.D, FE
