Tuesday 20 August

After a full Welsh breakfast, we travel along sandy beaches and coastal villages to the nearby town of Llandudno. In the afternoon we visit the enormous 19th century fantasy, Penrhyn castle(National Trust). A neo-Norman castle crammed with fasinating items, such as a one ton slate bed made for Queen Victoria, elaborate carvings, plasterwork & mock-Norman furniture, an outstanding collection of painting and a fasinating railway museum. The 60 acres of grounds includes exotic trees, plants and a Victorian walled garden.

Wednesday 21 August

Journey to the rooftop of Wales, we join the 4.7 mile rail journey at Llanberis to Snowdon's summit, the highest peak in Wales. At 3506ft it dominates the landscape, with stunning views. There is a state of the art visitor centre with resturant and a path leading to Snowdon's summit. Close by travel back to Vistorian times at the National Slate Museum, see the workshops, split a slate and hear a real insight into the hardships of quarry life.

Thursday 22 August

Today we cross the Menai Straights and onto the Isle of Anglesey, stopping at Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch , famous for having the longest place name in an English-speaking country. Which means St Mary's Church in the hollow of the rapid whirlpool of Llantysilio of the red cave. The Name was artificially contrived in the 1860s as a Publicity stunt. We have a photo stop at Beaumaris Castle, a great unfinished masterpiece, built in 1295., followed by a cruise to Puffin Island, home to many species of birds and wildlife. The 1 ½ hour cruise takes you right round the island with regular sightings of puffins, grey seals and dolphins.
