Discover the Isle of Man, a seabound kingdom where the wonders of coastline and countryside, sea and shore, meet within a matter of minutes. It's a place full of colour, contrasts and character, where landscapes are ever-changing and the Manx history is rich. From our base in the pretty seasite capital of Douglas, we'll head to the hills of the island to take in the panoramic views from the Great Laxey Wheel, affectionately known as he Lady Isabella. A brilliant example of Victorian engineering, she is the world's largest working waterwheel, built to pump water from the Laxey Mines. The impressive 72 foot diameter construction remains an outstanding icon of the island's long industrial history.
The 4-star Sefton Hotel is located in Douglas on the beachfront. It boasts a unique indoor water garden and eateries. The rooms at the Sefton feature flat-screen TVs, free WiFi and some rooms have views of Douglas Bay and the water garden. A more fine dining experience can be had in the Harbour Lights at The Sefton. The Sefton Hotel also boasts a tranquil pool and a library where guests can relax with a drink or a book. The Atrium Water Garden provides a stunning backdrop to enjoy a drink. The ferry port is a 10-minute walk away.

The House of Manannan is a substantial museum that leads the visitor through the island's history with some fascinating Celtic and Viking exhibits, including a replica long boat that was sailed over from Norway to celebrate the Tynwald Parliament's millennium. If you're feeling peckish try some traditional Manx cuisine at Moore's Smoked Kipper Factory, an island favourite. We take the short journey south to Niarbyl to enjoy panoramic views at one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline on the island. Return to Douglas via Tynwald Hill, home of the Manx Parliament which was established by the Vikings 1000 years ago and where the islanders gather to celebrate every 5th July.D, FE

After breakfast we catch the Snaefell Mountain Railway the only electric mountain railway in the British Isles which climbs 2,036ft from Laxey to the summit of Snaefell Mountain. The 4 miles of line, with gradients of 1 in 12, was constructed within seven months, and opened on 21 August 1895. At the summit enjoy the magnificent view of the seven kingdoms - Mann, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the sea and heaven! You will have free time in Laxey before a visit to the Great Laxey Wheel & Mines Trail known affectionately as the "Lady Isabella". Named after the wife of the Governor and a credit to Victorian engineering, it is the world's largest working water wheel and an outstanding icon of the island's long history of mining. The Mines Trail includes displays of the once thriving mining complex, a short walk through the Glen Moar Valley and the chance to enter a section of the mine. Return to Douglas for dinner.D, FE
