Two great Cities and The Manchester to Liverpool Ship Canal

From the peaceful banks of the River Dee to the bustling streets of Chester, there is so much to explore on this city break.   Chester's unique atmosphere makes it one of Britain's most popular destinations with many chapters of history etched into the very fabric of the city, from Roman Legionnaires to Viking raiders and Norman invaders.   Chester has the most complete city walls, the oldest racecourse, the largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain and a 1000 year old Cathedral.

England's North West has exported its cargo and its culture across the globe, from the water-borne trade of the 1900's to the 60's music of the Beatles.   The Liverpool & Manchester ship canal was opened by Queen Victoria in 1894 and still carries cargo from the inland Port of Manchester to the Mersey and the world beyond.   Cruise along the canal and marvel at the locks, swing bridges, historic buildings and industrial landscapes as well as the beautiful and tranquil countryside.   You'll have a 'ticket to ride' in Liverpool as you sing your way past the homes of John Lennon and Paul McCartney to Penny Land and Stawberry Fields.   The City's famous 'three graces' stand proud over the Mersey amd the vibrant Albert Docks in the city's historic waterfront, bustling with shops, cafes and galleries.
